Fort Wayne Habitual Traffic Violator Lawyer

Indiana Multiple DUI Attorney

Traffic violations pile up. In Indiana, it is easy to become what the Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) classifies as a habitual traffic violator. If your driving record reaches that status, you might face severe consequences.

I am Michael Douglass, a Fort Wayne habitual traffic violator attorney. I have helped clients who are in danger of having their driving privileges revoked. Many people don't realize that one major offense, such as an OWI conviction, and another nine tickets within a 10 year period can lead to a license suspension of up to 10 years.

A more detailed description follows:

  • Serious traffic violations, first tier: If you accumulate two convictions of this type in a period of 10 years, your driver's license will be suspended for 10 years. Serious traffic violations include OWI resulting in death or manslaughter or reckless homicide resulting from the operation of a motor vehicle.
  • Serious traffic violations, second tier: If you accumulate three convictions of this type in a period of 10 years, your driver's license will be suspended for 10 years. The second tier of serious traffic violations include OWI, driving with a suspended license and criminal recklessness.
  • Traffic infractions: If you accumulate 10 convictions of this type, and at least one from either tier of the serious traffic violations within 10 years, your driver's license will be suspended for five years. These infractions can include speeding and unsafe lane changes.

It is important to get your lawyer involved as soon as you realize it might become a problem. When the BMV classifies you as a habitual traffic violator, you will receive a letter giving you two weeks to challenge the categorization. Call my office immediately, and I can begin working through your driving history to determine a strategy that will allow you to keep your license.
